Oraciones de 3 minutos para hombres is the Spanish translation of Tracy M. Sumner’s 3-Minute Prayers for Men, published by Barbour Español in 2023.
The English original is 3-Minute Prayers for Men. Same author, same content, same 180 prayers.
How this page went wrong
Worth explaining, because it is the second time we have found this exact failure.
The old review discussed the book entirely in English, recommended it for your men’s group and your morning routine, and never once mentioned that a reader who bought it would receive a book he probably could not read. The tags on the page were already in Spanish. Nobody noticed.
An earlier post on this site did the same thing with a Spanish edition of Dave Ramsey’s The Total Money Makeover. Two separate posts, same defect: a translated edition reviewed in English with no indication it was a translation.
What the book is
180 short prayers, one per reading, each paired with a Scripture passage and a closing question for reflection. The paperback runs to 186 pages. Barbour’s three-minute format is exactly what it sounds like: something a man can genuinely finish before he leaves the house.
The subjects are the ordinary ones. Loving God and loving your neighbor, which Sumner treats as the frame for everything else. Friendship, both having one and being one. Purity. The thought life. Legacy, meaning what you leave behind and in whom.
It does not pretend to be more than it is. A prayer, a verse, a question. For a man who does not know how to start praying, or who has fallen out of the habit entirely, a modest structure like this is often more use than a book that asks for forty-five minutes he does not have.
Who should buy which edition
Buy this Spanish edition if you read Spanish, or if you are buying for someone who does. It is a genuinely good gift for a Spanish-speaking man in your church, and quality Spanish-language devotional material is not as easy to find as it should be. Barbour Español is a real imprint doing real translation work, not a machine job.
Buy the English edition if you do not. It is the same book. There is no reason to struggle through a translation of something originally written in your own language.
What we removed
Two quotations attributed to readers, including one saying the prayers had become an anchor, and a section describing how men “in our community” changed their prayer habits because of this book. None of it could be verified and all of it is gone.
Also worth noting: the old title of this page was broken mid-sentence. It ran the book name into a fragment of publication data and a stray pipe character, and the parenthesis it opened was never closed. That is fixed.
