What it is
Part memoir, part business encouragement. Johnson is an entrepreneur, speaker, and faith-based business mentor who has built several businesses and had some of them go badly. The book works through setbacks, self-doubt, and recovery, with practical sections on managing money through a downturn, building a team, and planning.
The failure material is the honest part and the reason to read it. Most Christian business books are written from the far side of success with the wreckage tidied away. This one keeps the wreckage in.
One thing to flag before you buy
The publisher’s own description says the book draws on “proven principles of manifestation.” That word carries real weight, and we are not going to skip past it.
Manifestation language, the idea that declaring or visualizing an outcome helps bring it about, sits close to prosperity teaching, which Called to Better does not carry. Our rule is to judge the book rather than the author, and we could not determine from outside the book how far Johnson takes it. It may be loose marketing language for perseverance and vision, which is common in this genre. It may be more than that.
So: read the preview before buying, and if the book is teaching that your declarations produce your outcomes rather than that God is sovereign over them, that is the point to put it down. We have flagged this page internally for a closer read on exactly that question.
