Biblical Mediation in Marriage and Family Conflict Resolution is by Joshua Chee-Ning Lam, published in 2025.
Who wrote it, and why that is the main reason to consider it
Lam is a Rev. Dr. holding an LLM and a DMin, and serves as executive director of Access Agree. He has around twenty years of mediation practice and about forty years in pastoral ministry, and his organization states he has worked directly with more than two thousand families in conflict.
That combination is rare and it is the book’s real credential. Most Christian conflict books are written by pastors who counsel, or by counselors who are Christians. This one is written by someone with formal legal and mediation training who has also spent four decades pastoring, which is a genuinely different vantage point on a family fight.
What we could and could not verify
The book is organized around what Lam calls the TINS framework, which the listing presents as combining contemporary mediation practice with Scripture. We could not verify what TINS stands for or how the framework works from any source outside the sales listing. We are not going to describe a framework we have not seen, and our old review’s summary of it was not something we could stand behind.
The author’s professional record checks out independently. The book’s contents do not, because there is essentially no third-party coverage of it yet. That is normal for a 2025 self-published title and it is not an accusation, but you should be buying on the strength of the author rather than on the strength of reviews.
What we removed
The previous review carried a “Team Reflections” section describing what our review team took away from the book. There was no such team and no such reading. It was invented, and it is gone.
A note on how we treat this subject
Conflict in a marriage is one of the places where a book can do real harm by being too confident. Called to Better’s position is that men and women have different but equal roles and that we do not define those roles beyond what Scripture plainly says, which means we are not going to endorse any book’s specific account of who yields to whom in an argument. If you are in a marriage where conflict has become frightening rather than merely painful, a book is not the right tool. Talk to someone in person.
Where we land
Worth a look mainly because of who wrote it. Read the preview before buying, since the framework at the center of the book is the part we could not independently confirm.
